Claire Carmody, MSW
I’m currently working as a Senior Family Services Specialist with a local department of social services in the Richmond area. In this role I hold a caseload of about 12 children, working as both an adoption and foster care social worker for these youth. My role changes from foster care social worker to adoption social worker depending on how permanency is achieved!
Hannah Fost, MSW
I am working at Frederick County Department of Social Services within the Child Protective Services Unit. In this role, I conduct investigations and assessments for families in need of intervention and services from the department on varying levels. Additionally, I work closely with law enforcement, the court system and community partners such as child advocacy centers, counseling centers and the public schools.
Chantel Jarrett, MSW
Chantel is a Foster Care Family Service Specialist with Winchester Department of Social Services. Chantel works with Winchester City local resources to coordinate services with biological parents and relatives to alleviate barriers preventing children in foster care from returning home and assure that children who are unable to be placed with relatives are placed in the least restrictive and most family-like setting. Chantel works with biological families, foster families, and local agencies to coordinate services to help aide families in achieving reunification and to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
Bridget Mayo, MSW
I’m working for Community Residences Inc., at the LIFT independent living program with more than a dozen former foster youth ages 18-21.
Within a case management role, I assist many of my clients enroll in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, which is a federally funded program that helps pay for professional certificates including CNA license, CDL license, etc. On a weekly basis, I meet with clients to assist with their job searching and work with clients to improve their Independent Living skills (e.g. apartment management, grocery shopping, cooking, and budgeting). I regularly escort clients to the Community Service Board (CSB) and assist with scheduling mental health, medical, and dental appointments as needed. Every day is an adventure, I love what I do!
Emily Nall, BSW
Emily became the first recipient to receive the Title IV-E stipend as both a BSW and an MSW student. As a CWSP recipient in her senior year in the BSW program, she interned in the resource unit at the City of Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services. As a resource unit intern, Emily developed her passion for working with resource families as well as children in foster care.
Emily began the MSW program at George Mason in fall 2018. Her field placement is within the Pregnancy Adoption Support Unit at Catholic Charities where she has the opportunity to work with birth families and adoptive families. Emily feels fortunate to have received the stipend in both programs, as it has given her greater opportunities for personal development on her path to becoming a child welfare worker.
