George Mason University is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa J. Perry, Sc.D., MHS as the next Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Dean-designate Perry will join the Mason community on August 1, 2022.

Though things have changed since Mason’s Department of Social Work began 50 years ago, one constant is its focus on the many aspects that impact health and well-being: housing, work, physical health, mental health, finances, and social support.

Researchers from the Schar School of Policy and Government’s Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence! and the College of Health and Human Services are translating research into actionable guidelines to help probation officers support their clients to achieve better outcomes.

As the region approached the second anniversary of declaring a state of emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic, the College of Health and Human Services convened academic, health department, and philanthropy leaders to discuss the current public health priorities and opportunities to partner in transforming the region’s public health infrastructure.

Caprecia Miller, a Master of Social Work student, wanted to take action to address issues of systemic racism and police brutality. Her work in voter outreach gained national recognition. In March 2021, she received the CRISP Student of the Year Award.
